Mostly because I need to rave about this play - and because I needed to update my journal, badly.

Yesterday, my class of six kids took a trip to New York City to see Hamlet, starring Jude Law, at the Broadhurst Theatre. Alone, Hamlet is an awe-inspiring revenge-tragedy to be remembered for ages to come, but when the curtain rose and the drama began, an intense atmosphere filled the theatre. The cast was excellent, and when Jude Law sprung into the character of Hamlet and launched masterfully into his first soliloquy, "O that this too, too sollid flesh would melt", the crowd felt the power of his rendition of the legendary character truly come to life. Jude Law portrayed the character of Hamlet in a way that made you believe he had been born for stage acting rather than just a star on the silver screen.

Jude Law not only brought an amazing amount of realism to the emotions and spirit encompassing Hamlet, but did it in such a way that combined the enthusiasm of a Shakespearean actor and the motion of a movie star, physically acting out many of Hamlet's lines in a way that brought laughter, gasps, and applause from the audience. The set and costumes, simplicity in themselves, worked incredibly effectively to the story and the mood of the drama. The actors and actresses played their parts exceptionally well, and I would definitely go as far as to call it one of the most well-performed dramas I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves classic theatre art.
